More about Kim's decision
To answer a frequent question, yes, Kim will be living on campus. In fact, we talked about not seeing her until Thanksgiving so she could have the whole "away" experience even though she's only ~2 miles from home. It took her awhile to decide on Northwestern, partly because it's the school she's grown up with. She went to so many programs there while growing up that it was hard for her to see it as "someplace different", but ultimately she decided it was the best school she got into and she shouldn't ignore it just because she already knew her way around campus. On the plus side, she'll be the one who knows where all the good coffee joints are close to campus and will make friends during orientation. Actually, since she went to the summer "cherub" program last summer in journalism, and lived in a dorm for six weeks, she's had a couple of kids from that program ask her is she'd like to be their roommate! Between students from the cherub program and ~25 kids from New Trier she should know 40 or 50 of the incoming freshmen before orientation starts.
