Cicadas spotted in Wilmette
Today's Chicago Tribune RedEye (and the Trib itself) ran an article that the 17 year cicadas have begun coming out of the ground in Wilmette! They're described as "early emergers" that will quickly get eaten. The main brood of cicadas is scheduled to emerge on May 22nd. NPR ran an interesting story in March about how the expected noise has caused Ravinia to reschedule the outdoor concerts of the Chicago Symphony to avoid the noise!

We moved into our current home the year the cicadas last emerged, and remember Sarah walking around picking up a bucket full of empty exoskeletons. The cicadas made it hard to walk down our sidewalk without stepping on some. We'll see how quickly our two dogs gorge themselves on this new "mobile treat"!
