What a day!
Whew! Friday was a great day! Laurie got to shake hands with Bill Clinton, Larry got offered a job, Kim premiered as Editor in Chief and we all went to see the premiere of "Da Vinci Code"!
Laurie attended a healthcare reform conference at Northwestern's business school where former President Bill Clinton was the keynote speaker, and was randomly selected to meet Mr. Clinton and have her picture taken with him. Later he spoke for almost two hours, covering every topic imaginable, all without notes! Laurie's take: he's got a lot of great ideas and "he gets it" on the problems facing us to reform healthcare.
About the same time, Larry got a call from a professor at DePaul University in downtown Chicago offering him a postdoctoral position in bioinformatics! Details to follow.
Friday also marked the premier issue of the New Trier News with Kim listed as Editor in Chief! She also had a front page article she wrote on the University of Illinois changing their admission policies. We thought the editor job wouldn't start until the fall, but she stayed after school until 7 pm on both Monday and Tuesday working on layout.
Kim was also invited, as a new student leader, to meet with New Trier's principal for breakfast and a discussion Friday morning. She met the other "movers and shakers" among the student body for the coming year.
Finally, we went out as a family for dinner to celebrate our day and ended up going to see Da Vinci Code! Read the book before you see the movie, and you'll enjoy it (and understand it) much more. Sarah enjoyed the spoken French segments (disagreeing with the subtitles), and Kim enjoyed the spoken Latin!
