NASA Honors Journalist Walter Cronkite | Science Blog
NASA Honors Journalist Walter Cronkite | Science Blog: "NASA is honoring Walter Cronkite for his coverage of America's space program with the presentation of the Ambassador of Exploration Award." Cronkite is the first non-astronaut and only non-NASA individual to receive the award.

The award is a small sample of lunar material encased in Lucite and mounted for public display. Cool . . . .I want one!

Seriously, I remember watching "Walter" describe what we were seeing as Neal Armstrong climbed down the ladder of Apollo 11 in that fuzzy Black & White TV image. Mr. Cronkite was confused for a few minutes as to what Armstrong said ("That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind") because of some feedback on the audio during the key phrase. I also remember Mr. Cronkite's shameless enthusiasm for everything and anything related to space. This is a well-deserved tribute! I'll have to visit the Univ. of Texas to see the archive of his papers.
