A Human Genome X-Prize?
Today's Wall Street Journal had an article that the X Prize Foundation may be preparing to offer a prize ($5~20 million) "to the first team that completely decodes the DNA of 100 or more people in a matter of weeks"! According to an article on the X Prize Foundation, Fuel for Thought, this is in part because Dr. Craig Venter is on the board of the Foundation. Venter was offering a smaller prize himself for developing a "$1000 genome sequence", but dropped that in favor of the X Prize approach.

This will require a H*U*G*E bioinformatics component. It looks like I'm getting my training at the right time!
