Finding Local info on Mobile Phones
I'm constantly looking for directions or the phone number for a restaurant or a store (no jokes from my daughters, please, about how men are afraid to ask for directions!). Here's a clever way to do just that on your cell phone. Enter a town or ZIP code and what you're looking for then you'll get directions, phone numbers & a link to Google's great map function! Check out their directions with sample screen shots. You can do the same with My Yahoo! on your phone, but it takes a few more clicks (start at http://my.yahoo.com/ then go to Yellow Pages; check the Yahoo! Mobile page for which features are available for your phone and your wireless carrier. My bookmark is http://wap.oa.yahoo.com/raw?&dp=updtlchstry&nxt=%2Fraw%3Fdp%3Dyp&addr=&zip=60091 ; modify the ZIP code for your location!). Of course, remember to pull over when surfing your phone for directions!
Another feature I find handy is using my cell phone to check flight arrival information when I'm racing to the airport. Here are a few of the sites I've found helpful:
- American Airlines at http://aa.flightlookup.com#top
- Continental Airlines at http://wap.continental.com/phone/wml/noup/wml.asp?home_url=&home_label=&service=#Main (you can probably skip everything after the wml.asp above and it'll be entered for you)
- United Airlines at http://www.ua2go.com/
Hint: Enter these as "Bookmarks" now into your phone so you'll have them the next time you need to check a flight and can't get on-line. Check your favorite airline's web site for instructions on "Wireless" or "Mobile" access.
