Walkin' the dog when it's 5 degrees outside!
Well, it's pretty cold in Chicago right now. It was 5 F (-15 C for our European friends) when I walked Cassie this morning. She's a 10 pound miniature poodle, so we cover her up when it's below ~10 degrees. She really likes chasing the tennis ball, but I wasn't sure we could do that today. I dressed her in her jacket and booties (held on by velcro), and off we went. She loved it!

As we walked around the block, however, the tennis ball stopped bouncing as well and started to sound more like a "thud" when I tried to make it bounce. Finally, I spotted a basketball some kids had left outside which answered the physics problem:
A basketball in 5 degree weather The air inside the ball had contracted in the cold, creating a dimple in the ball! That's why my tennis ball started sounding like a rock!
